Our daughter Maya was born with tricuspid atresia, a rare and serious congenital heart defect. From the very beginning, her life has required a strength that no child should ever have to know. She has already endured multiple open-heart surgeries, countless appointments, procedures, hospital stays, and more uncertainty than we ever imagined we would face as parents. Through it all, Maya continues to show us what courage really looks like. This past March, our family experienced another frightening chapter in Maya’s heart journey. What we hoped would be a short hospital stay turned into three weeks at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. There were moments of fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty, but there was also incredible hope. We watched doctors, nurses, specialists, and an entire medical team fight alongside our little girl every single day. Today, we are incredibly grateful to have Maya home, smiling, playing, and being a kid again. We know her heart journey isn’t over, but we remain hopeful that the open-heart surgeries are behind us. Going through this experience has changed our family forever. It has also opened our eyes to the thousands of children born with congenital heart disease (CHD) and the families who walk this road beside them. That is why we are starting this fundraiser. We want to turn some of the hardest moments of our lives into something that can create hope for another child and another family. Funds raised will go toward supporting the CHD community and helping children and families affected by congenital heart disease.
