On Saturday November 2, 2019 the New Community Shelter will be hosting their 24th Annual Bowl-A-Thon at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley.  This event has become the shelter’s largest fundraising event of the year.  Participants include Corporate Sponsors, teams from local churches or organizations, and even groups of friends and family wanting to help support the programs and resources that the New Community Shelter has to offer.  I should mention the best thing about this event is that everyone there has the same goal in mind – to raise money and have fun!!!

One amazing fact about the Bowl-A-Thon is that every single dollar raised directly comes back to the shelter and benefits our focus of helping individuals experiencing homelessness as well as feeding men, women, and children who are hungry.  The reason why we can say 100% of the proceeds come directly back to the shelter is that Triangle Distributing pays for all the event expenses!  We are so fortunate they do this year after year because the number of people the shelter is helping is always growing in our Emergency Shelter, Transitional Living Program and our Community Meal Program. 

With all that in mind, I am reaching out to you to help us meet our $200,000 fundraising goal. There are several ways you can choose to help; your business can become sponsor; you can donate a Silent Auction/Raffle package or item; or you can participate in the event by raising pledges and putting in a bowling team, or a monetary donation of cash, check or credit card will be gladly accepted. My Personal Story: 

I started working for the New Community Shelter in January, 2019.  I truly love my job and the Mission of the New Community Shelter and feel grateful to be a part of such a great organization and team who assist so many in our Community.  I was in the non-profit world for many years when we lived in Kentucky (The Salvation Army – 7 years as the Corps Accountant) and then left the non-profit world for a short period of time when we moved to Green Bay in 2017.  While working in the “Corporate World” I realized “something” was missing in my life and that “something” was the daily interaction with people and the satisfaction, pleasure and honor of helping people in need, which is certainly what we do at New Community Shelter on a daily basis!  I came to the New Community Shelter in November of 2018 to take a tour and sign up to be a volunteer, and while I still actively volunteer; I was blessed enough to be offered the position as their Finance Director – talk about timing! Being the Finance Director at the New Community Shelter for the past ten months, I have become very passionate about our work and witness the positive outcomes on a daily basis in how we impact people’s lives for the better. Our programming, resources, and tools offered to every individual that walks through the door and the SUCCESS stories that we experience are heartwarming and life changing. I feel fortunate in life that I was led to this awesome place where we continue to work hard and be successful in order to help others! Thank you for reading my story.
