On February 1, 2018, after a year of genetic testing, my daughter Mackenzie was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome. This was 2 weeks before her 2nd birthday and my husband and I were devastated. The world seemed to stop for our family as we tried to make sense of the news we had just received. Mackenzie’s dad (Craig) boldly said, “we can either sit here and let Rett happen to Mackenzie, or we can choose to attack Rett syndrome head on and fight for a cure and give her the most amazing life possible.” From that day forward we have strived to make each day as fun and exciting for Mackenzie as possible. Craig is amazing at ensuring Mackenzie has the opportunity to do the same things all other toddlers get to do. It only takes a moment to see the way Mackenzie looks at her daddy to know that she lights up her world. 

I decided that as Mackenzie’s mom I want to do my part to attack Rett syndrome. So... I am stepping way out of my comfort zone and commiting to a half marathon! Not only do I want to raise funding for research to cure my girl, but I want to show her that no matter what curveballs this life throws at us, I will always stand right beside her and fight for her. 

So on Sunday February 23, 2020 I will run representing Mack! This will be her first time at Disney and I can’t wait to see her smile as she gets to meet many other girls going through exactly what she is. Please support us by making a donation if you can! ?
