My name is Nick! I was 11 years old, I was playing baseball, basketball and swimming! I was losing energy, I was losing weight and I felt like I was losing at everything! Then came the diagnosis, “You’re A Type 1 Diabetic”! I vowed from that day, I have diabetes, but diabetes will never have me! I entered the PICU early on a Tuesday with blood sugars at 900 only to be released on a Friday, and found my way to the pitchers mound 24 hours later! I refuse to let the disease win, I am in control! My parents were scared, but supportive, my family was afraid but treated me the same, and I needed to let them know that my job is to do what I love, and show the world, together with the diabetes community that everything is possible!

So here I am today!

I want diabetic kids like me to have the opportunity to go to Camp Seale Harris. I want them to learn more about how they can make all of their dreams come true, even with such an ugly disease. The camp has a plethora of resources. They surround you with love, boost your confidance and they provide the tools  we need to live with the disease. They teach the many challenges, and there are many, and how to face them head on and still live to the fullest.  I am going on my 5th year since diagnosis and went to camp the last two years where I found kids just like me, and they’ve given me the support I needed to get this far in sharing my own story! I wish I knew sooner just how beneficial this camp would be.  Let’s walk together as Nicks Carb Counters, My Crusaders, My Supporters!
