Samantha's Journey

My niece Samantha was born on December 8, 2013 at 23 weeks 1 day gestation due to Pre-Eclampsia/HELLP Syndrome. She was 1 pound 1 ounce at birth and was so small she could fit in your hand. After hearing many times how hard her struggle would be, how she may not make it, or that her quality of life would be "questionable," my sister-in-law and her husband chose to support Samantha in every way possible.

Within the first 4 months of life, Samantha had undergone 5 major surgeries. These surgeries served as treatments for GI-perforations, a bi-lateral brain bleed, and patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) complications. At 4 months old, Samantha had shown such an immense passion to live that inspired us all.

But her journey doesn't end there. Thanks to the amazing nurses and doctors at Children's NICU, the prayers and support of family and friends, and many therapists and specialists since then, Samantha is a beautiful (and very hilarious) toddler who loves "running away" from mom and dad on her motorized wheelchair, walking her uncle's dog on with help of her walker, and FaceTiming with her cousins. We have been blessed with so many miracles and are so lucky to have Samantha in our lives! Please join us in helping the next family in need by joining our team, Samantha's Squad, or making a donation to Samantha's Squad today!
