Brooklyn was born on April 1, 2016 with VSD, Ventricular Septal Defect. Normally, the left side of the heart only pumps blood to the body, and the heart's right side only pumps blood to the lungs. With Brooklyn, blood can travel across the hole from the left pumping chamber (left ventricle) to the right pumping chamber (right ventricle) and out into the lung arteries. If the VSD is large, the extra blood being pumped into the lung arteries makes the heart and lungs work harder and the lungs can become congested. Brooklyn's undergone a couple of Echos and luckily her VSD is small. We go to Children's for routine check ups to make sure that the VSD hasn't gotten bigger or formed to other areas of her heart. After our last appointment at Children's late last year the Cardiologist is hopeful in that Brooklyn's VSD will close on it's own as she continues to grow! We pray everyday that this is the case, but are thankful that we have a happy, healthy, beautiful, spunky 1 year old!!! Brooklyn is strong and will not let this stop her!!!
