Brindle's Mom

I started my volunteer career with the BVSPCA a few years ago.  At first, my daughter, Steph, and I walked dogs and played with the cats at the West Chester shelter.  My background as a registered nurse led me to wanting to help in the Animal Health Center on Coffman Street.  That's where I met Brindle in November 2018.  He was one of a group of animals flown from Georgia prior to the winter Mega Adoption Event. He was about a year old at the time. When I met him, his name was "Camo" and he was a "second chance" dog.  Somewhere along the way, another dog bit one of his front feet and dislocated one of his toes. So, not only did he have to be neutered, the poor guy had to have a toe amputated.  During the next few days, he developed an infection and refused to walk or eat. He also started having diarrhea and was diagnosed with giardia.  Dr. Grady was very concerned and thought Camo needed to go into foster care with someone who could monitor him closely. He looked so sad with his big brown eyes. I offered to take him home with me.

I cooked him rice and chicken and gave him his meds as ordered. He started gaining weight. He followed me everywhere and would not leave my side. He was very good with my cats.  His paw healed nicely. After a few weeks, he was ready to be placed for adoption.  He looked at me and I just had to adopt him. I renamed him when I signed his adoption papers. He's my buddy and my cat herder, if one of them slips outside. If it weren't for the rescue efforts of the BVSPCA, he would not have had that second chance.
