10 years later....

10 years later and yet it still seems like it was yesterday. It's painful that the memories of a baby's birthday could somehow be tainted by such fear and sorrow. Luckily for us we have the benefit of hindsight- that those first hours of what seemed like horror as we were initially told that our little girl would not live the night, when life and death decisions had to be made without knowledge of what was the right thing to do and floundering through each painful decision, would lead to such memories of love and peace. That in a room where we held Abby to say hello and goodbye all in one breath could be remembered as a room that, although was filled with tears, also became a room punctuated by smiles and serenity. Hours turned into days, which then turned into weeks and months with Abby. 

So 10 years later as I still get chills and choked up over how her story began, I find peace in knowing that Abby's story has never ended even though her time with us did. Every year that we fundraise I look at Jesse in amazement that her story continues....10 years later.  It's one of the most amazing feelings I've ever had
