About Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South is proud to announce its 32nd Annual Bowlin' on the River Bowl-A-Thon, taking place February 18-19 and 25-26, 2017. The event is full of fun competition, good food and drink, music, and prizes! It provides an excellent team-building experience and networking opportunity for your group.

What is a Bowl-A-Thon?

The JA Bowl-A-Thon is the greatest source of funding for JA economic education programs. Each year, companies and individuals throughout the Mid-South community form bowling teams to participate. Each bowler raises donations from friends, family, and colleagues. The teams then come together and celebrate their hard work with a three-hour bowling session. It's a fun filled time with raffles, trivia, and other prize give-a-ways. The best part is that all proceeds are used to help JA inspire the next generation of students to own their economic success.

Why bowl for Junior Achievement?

Junior Achievement of Memphis began teaching practical young people real-world skills in 1955. We are the community's oldest organization dedicated to giving young people the practical knowledge and skills they need to plan for their future and make smart choices.

JA's programs focus on the areas of work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. In Memphis, more than 7,500 students participate in JA each year. Our programs are taught by volunteers from all walks of life, including: business people, college students, parents and retirees. These dedicated individuals are the backbone of our organization.

Your participation in the Bowl-A-Thon provides economic education to local K-12 students. Companies will enjoy this one of a kind team-building event, where co-workers will strategize, compete, and bond in their fundraising efforts. In addition to helping an amazing cause, you will also have a chance to receive great prizes for your fundraising efforts. Check out our Prize page for more info and don't let your company miss out on making a STRIKING difference!

How many students benefit from JA and what do they learn?

More than 7,500 students from Memphis and the Mid-South benefit annually from our classroom programs and simulated city, JA BizTown. Our programs are designed to be hands-on and engaging, giving students a real-life look at how a free market enterprise economy works. Our team of volunteers visits K-12 classrooms and presents JA curriculum while supplementing the session with their own life experiences. Our downtown headquarters also houses an incredible simulated city called JA BizTown. Students learn a curriculum in their classroom before visiting to operate the city for a day. The process includes job interviews, a mayoral election, and civic education. For more info, please visit our website at www.jamemphis.org. These programs are largely funded by the proceeds of the Bowl-A-Thon.
