Boone is a 5 year old boy with one of the best smile around! He's non-verbal, non-walking and has battled uncontrolled seizures since 3 months old. Friends of ours have received a seizure dog from 4 Paws 4 Ability and we have seen what amazing support a service animal can be. Boone's seizures often happen at night which leave mom and dad worried about missing a seizure or being alerted too late by various oxygen/heartrate and seizure monitors. This is particularly important because Boone needs oxygen support when he has a seizure and a number of rescue meds as soon as possible. A seizure alert dog is trained to pre-alert to Boone's precursor warnings, can bark or activate a button during a seizure event, can retreive medication and other rescue measures as well as provide comfort to Boone and assist in keeping him in a safe position during his seziure. As Boone grows and needs different mobility support, the service dog can accompany him, assist with doors and various retreival tasks and provide incredible companionship. We are excited to emBARK on this journey for Boone and appreciate any assistance in meeting our goal and spreading awareness of Service Animals and the vital role they play in their partner's lives.
- The Davenport Family
Training a service dog to meet our child’s requirements can be very costly. On average it costs between $40,000-60,000 to raise, train, and place a service dog at 4 Paws for Ability. While 4 Paws for Ability fundraises to help cover a significant portion of this cost, families are tasked with raising $20,000 of that amount or $23,000 if receiving a poodle, doodle or papillon. We hope that we can receive assistance from our beloved family and friends to help make our service dog dream a reality.
