Lyla has been approved for a seizure response dog from 4 Paws for Ability! 

Lyla is a senior in high school and enjoys painting, hanging out with friends and family and theater. 

Lyla has been suffering with intractable epilepsy for 11+ years. We have taken many measures to control these seizures with multiple medications and brain surgery, getting an RNS device implanted last year.  Even with these measures she has missed out on and had to give up so many opportunities throughout the years due to her seizures. From not being able to attend school in person, not being able to play certain sports, to passing up mission trip opportunities. Due to the negative effects of the medication this condition has taken a massive toll on her. 

The reality that the seizures have gotten more severe over the years has us all on edge. Some nights involve more worry than rest. This is a large contributor to our decision to pursue a seizure alert dog. However, this isn’t the only benefit this pup would provide! This dog could act as a refresher to the social toll that has been taken. A comfortable, safe companion who has her best in mind, that can also give independence and confidence would do wonders in Lyla's ability to live life to the fullest! 

4 Paws for Ability has awesome training and    would train this pup specifically for Lyla’s needs! The total cost for a seizure alert dog is $40,000 and 4 Paws asks that we raise half the cost. Any help is so so appreciated and would truly benefit her life for years and years to come!

Training a service dog to meet our child’s requirements can be very costly. On average it costs between $40,000-60,000 to raise, train, and place a service dog at 4 Paws for Ability. While 4 Paws for Ability fundraises to help cover a significant portion of this cost, families are tasked with raising $20,000 of that amount or $23,000 if receiving a poodle, doodle or papillon. We hope that we can receive assistance from our beloved family and friends to help make our service dog dream a reality.
