Helping Landon Find Safety: A Service Dog Journey with 4 Paws for Ability

Our family is raising $20,000 to secure a life-changing service dog for Landon, custom-raised and trained by the specialized team at 4 Paws for Ability. This service dog will be Landon's dedicated partner, helping him navigate severe PTSD symptoms so he can experience the safe, joyful childhood he deserves.

Landon’s Story & The Challenge

Landon spent nearly four years of his early life in foster care. Because of the instability during those critical early years, he missed a foundational developmental milestone: object permanence. While most children learn that the world remains stable even when things change, Landon’s early trauma taught him the opposite.

As a result, Landon struggles intensely to feel safe whenever situations shift unexpectedly or routines break. Now that he is attending school and attempting to participate in everyday community activities, his PTSD is triggered daily. Instead of being able to play, learn, or explore, Landon often defaults to severe "freeze" and "fawn" survival responses. Leaving the house or trying anything new can feel like an overwhelming threat.

How a Service Dog Changes Everything

A service dog from 4 Paws for Ability will provide Landon with a constant, unshakeable anchor. While the world around him may change, his service dog will remain a predictable, grounding presence.

The service dog will be trained to:

  • Interrupt Freeze and Fawn Responses: Provide deep pressure therapy and physical tactile grounding to pull Landon out of PTSD episodes.
  • Restore a Sense of Safety: Act as a predictable "constant" in unpredictable environments like school classrooms and public spaces.
  • Build Independence: Give Landon the emotional security and confidence he needs to leave the house, try new activities, and attend school without fear.

How You Can Help

The specialized training, breeding, and placement of a 4 Paws for Ability service dog requires a massive investment. We cannot do this alone, but we know that with the support of our community, friends, and family, we can reach this $20,000 milestone.

Every single dollar goes directly toward giving Landon his childhood back. With a loyal best friend by his side, Landon won't just survive his daily routine—he will finally have the freedom to thrive.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your donations, your prayers, and for sharing Landon's story!

Training a service dog to meet our child’s requirements can be very costly. On average it costs between $40,000-60,000 to raise, train, and place a service dog at 4 Paws for Ability. While 4 Paws for Ability fundraises to help cover a significant portion of this cost, families are tasked with raising $20,000 of that amount or $23,000 if receiving a poodle, doodle or papillon. We hope that we can receive assistance from our beloved family and friends to help make our service dog dream a reality.
