40 years ago I met a wonderful man named Duane when I went to work in a small institution in California. We became fast friends and when I moved to Alaska it was hard to leave Duane behind. My husband and I found a path to move him to Alaska and for the next 26 years he had amazing opportunities to experience meaningful relationships, employment, recreation, travel and more. Duane passed on a year and a half ago, leaving a huge hole in our hearts, but also with rich memories of years full of adventure.
Hope's support was a huge part of Duane's life and I will be forever grateful for the wonderful coaches and mentors he had who truly "saw" and appreciated his individuality, gifts and talents.
I'm walking for Duane this year ( and will every year) to raise funds to assure others will have the opportunity to have a full and meaningful life and have the opportunity to leave behind a wide circle of friends.
