I (Jenn McArdle) started the Bold Barefooters to raise money to help Joy International combat human trafficking.

When I lived in the Middle East, I regularly encountered women who were enslaved by traffickers. I couldn't help them, which made me feel like a coward; I never forgot them.

This fundraiser has given me the opportunity to join with friends and colleagues to take action against the horrors of human trafficking. This fundraiser will support the work of Joy International. They not only rescue trafficking victims, they also provide the women, teens, and children they rescue with crucial rehabilitative services. 

The term "human trafficking" is just another label for slavery. The women I saw were owned by their traffickers in every sense. When a government won't acknowledge that there is human trafficking withing its borders, then there are no laws against it. Without laws against human trafficking, law enforcement won't step in to help the victims and prosecute the perpetrators. When there is no freedom of speech or free elections, the people of that country, citizens and residents, often feel afraid and powerless to make the necessary changes.
