Exclusive Screening of "Forget Me Not"

The November event will highlight an exclusive screening of an adoptee transracial film “Forget Me Not.” Director Sun Hee Engelstoft will speak virtually from Denmark to speak about her film.

What makes a mother give away her baby? This is the big question in Sun Hee Engelstoft film about three Korean women who have become pregnant outside of marriage and are now hiding from the outside world until they give birth. They live in a shelter for unwed mothers on a South Korean island, where beautiful landscapes are in sharp contrast to the fierce dilemma that the women go through: should they keep their children or give them up for adoption? Engelstoft brings us close to a forbidden world and through her own experience as a Korean adoptee, she gives a deeply personal and extraordinary insight into a culture in which women can’t choose their own fate.

Hear a Korean Birth Mother’s Personal Story

The event will also feature Hyun Suk, a Korean birth mother, traveling here from South Korea to tell her personal story of why she gave up her child for adoption and her search process.

Currently, she is the founder and the director of The RUTH table which provides mental and psychological care for birth mothers who gave up their children for adoption.

Silent Auction

Adoptee Hub Annual Fundraiser features a virtual silent auction through the app Givi. The auction begins November 1 and ends November 6 at the end of the program. All proceeds will go towards our mission and goal of providing post-adoption services for adoptees.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Adoptee Hub's Mission

Adoptee Hub urges its Korean community partners to contribute to this fundraiser. Invest in our community so these vital services can be launched and help Korean adoptees that so desperately deserve to be acknowledged and valued.

The 2021 fundraiser goal is to raise $100,000. Once this goal is reached, Adoptee Hub will be able to fund and launch their virtual portal.

“These services will offer opportunities to see and discuss a full spectrum of an adoptee’s life experience, upbringing, self-identity, and birth search reunion from beginning to end. We hope that this event will encourage and create dialogue on how adoptees balance issues of their adoptee experience, race, culture, and identity. As new insights emerge, they should be captured and identified. These services are long overdue.”
- Ami Nafzger, Founder and CEO of Adoptee Hub, Founder of G.O.A.’L.

This portal will provide birth search services, translation services, mental health therapy resources, private application process for adoptees needing US Citizenship, F4 Visa application, and other key services Korean adoptees desperately need and deserve.

The first phase, birth search services, is a first of its kind with innovative tools built in to decode and match adoptees and birth families. This portal will be dedicated for a Korean adoptee of birth family member to search directly for each other within a safe and private place. Consent on both sides of the search will be integrated to allow for faster matching.

Adoptee Hub's mission is to connect, collaborate, and preserve our adoption legacy through community, culture, and post-adoption services.
