Air Liquide’s partnership with Junior Achievement and Treasure Forest is an extension of the company’s Corporate Sustainability Program, which aims to engage with the communities in which it operates in meaningful ways.

Treasure Forest is a school with a majority of students coming from economically disadvantaged households (94 percent qualify for reduced or free lunch). Many do not even come from traditional families. A lot of them have aunts, brothers or sisters who take care of them, and you realize you can’t say mom and dad.

As a JA frequent flyer, volunteering for this school is helping these kids to become better persons with a basis for dealing with the challenges in the grown-up world. Just as my own daughter goes to school and has her JA program, these young kids love to get a visit from volunteers who teach them JA. And fortunately for them and me, I love to teach these kids new things and tell stories to my daughter about them who have (more) different challenges in life. 

It’s just wonderful to work with kids!

During my last JA Day at Treasure Forest, I taught the kindergarten curriculum “JA Ourselves”. This curriculum  uses storybook characters in read-aloud and hands-on activities to introduce the role people play in the economy. The kids had a wonderful time and didn't want us to leave. "Can't you become our new teacher?"

You get such a warm welcome and gratitude from all these future hero's that you just can't sit still to wait for the next one. Therefore, we have to support each kid in whatever circumstance and that's why I look forward to your support!
