Hi, my name is Leslie. I was diagnosed with stage IV ALK-positive NSCLC in 2015 at the age of 55. Like many others, I had no known risk factors, and the diagnosis was a shock. It is only because of research that I am alive today. Unfortunately, my cancer metastasizes three times to my brain over the years. The third that I had was in 2022 and  was called Leptomeningeal Disease – LMD a cancer of the spinal flued and the fluid around the brain. LMD is 10% of all metastasizes brain cancers for those with NSCLC. It has a three-to-six-month survival rate. Thanks to the ongoing research a new ALK inhibiter “TKI” was available and it saved me again. We are making progress, but we need more funding to continue improving treatment options. This year I got the chance to see my son graduated collage with his BS. They told me I would not live more than 2 years and look at me now. Go research I intend to see many more achievements that my son does.
