My name is Jessie and I'm the Vice President of the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Law Animal Justice Chapter. I'm going #Voiceless4AnimalJustice because it pains me beyond words to see how much suffering our fellow nonhuman animals endure because they have no voice in our society and no rights in our legal system. I have spent the last few weeks watching in horror as millions of farmed animals drowned in factory farms after Hurricane Florence hit. The animals had no chance, no means of escape, and even the ones who were rescued were returned to their "owners" for slaughter because they are no more than property under the law. Millions of animals are tortured and killed every year for food, entertainment, research, clothing, the list goes on. We cannot keep looking away. We cannot keep silent in the wake of these atrocities. By going #Voiceless4AnimalJustice I endeavor to use my human privilege to try to shine some light on these issues, as well as support an amazing organization, Animal Justice, that is leading the legal fight for animal protection in Canada.
