Team Jeff: Outwalking Parkinson's - Personal Fundraising Page
Jeff has never shied away from a challenge.
He’s the kind of person who enjoys building things, solving logistical problems and figuring out how something works. Over the years he has spent countless hours playing racquetball – eventually rising to being #1 in his league – along with golfing, skiing, sailing, motorcycling, woodworking and competing in just about any card or board game that came his way. Jeff even met me playing volleyball.
If there was a game to be played or a puzzle to solve, Jeff was in.
Six years ago, Jeff was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
Many of the sports and hobbies that filled his days are no longer easy or even possible. But if you know Jeff, you know he’s not someone who gives up easily.
These days Jeff channels that same determination into new routines. He walks on the treadmill daily, participates in Parkinson’s boxing classes 3X a week, and takes weekly Parkinson’s voice classes designed to help people maintain strong speech. Every afternoon he walks Mia, our dog, on the rail trail or throughout our neighborhood. He still enjoys board games, working on jigsaw puzzles, travel and spending time with friends and family.
Jeff has always been a quiet person with a dry, witty sense of humor, and that part hasn’t changed at all. Nor has his optimism, his competitiveness or the way people enjoy being around him.
That’s why our friends and family are walking.
The funds we raise will help the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) provide:
- Local education, information, and support for people impacted by PD
- Nationwide virtual programs to keep everyone connected, no matter where they live
- Scientific research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and ultimately a cure
Most of all, we’re walking for Jeff – and for the determination he shows every day.
