I am an ASK Ambassador and am lending a hand in ASK's mission to make life better for children with cancer and their families. With 1-2 children diagnosed each week here in Central Virginia, I am helping to raise money to provide financial, social, educational and psycho-social support services to these children and families.

I first got involved with ASK in trying to find a charity to support through my company's charity support program. We were only able to participate in one activity before COVID-19 struck - but we got to go to the facility and help Mary Jo and some kids from a local elementary school create some art projects and learn about the foundation and what they do.

I was drawn to ASK because I watched a friend of mine from high school, Jess Harris, and her family go through the battle of childhood cancer when their son was only about 8 months old. I struggle enough taking my daughter into the doctor for wellness visits, I could not imagine having seemingly endless hospital stays and watching my baby go through all these tests, treatments, poking, prodding, etc. It broke my heart to watch their story, but it warms my heart every time I see Holden (pictured above) playing and enjoying life as a childhood cancer survivor - and seeing his sister, Piper, be included in all that ASK has to offer.

My final push was when I lost my own child right before the end of my 1st trimester. It was not cancer related, but the heartache and the pain of losing a child, no matter what stage of life they are in or what reason, is a pain I wouldn't wish on anyone. I couldn't do anything to help my baby girl survive and come into this world, but if I can take that pain and put it into something good and help families who have children who do have a chance and take even the slightest amount of weight off of their shoulders, I'm more than happy and willing to do so - but of course, I will need some help from my friends and family!
