Associate Relief Fund: Helping our colleagues in need.

Thank you for giving.

From custodial associates to nurses in need, 83 associates received assistance last year through the Associate Relief Fund (ARF). In 2023, $162,023 was gifted to those who have struggled through an unforeseen event like a diagnosis, illness, or injury, causing them to fall behind on car, rent, or utility payments. ARF applications are confidential, but three recipients have agreed to share their stories below.

Two associates share their stories

While we honor each ARF applicant’s privacy, there are two general stories we can share anonymously. If you are aware of these situations, please keep their confidence and do not share their identity or details.

  • One of our colleagues cares for her husband who has Parkinson’s disease. He recently had to have brain surgery out of the area. The travel expenses and time off work to be with him put them behind on rent. Thanks to gifts to the Associate Relief Fund (ARF), their January rent was paid relieving them of a financial burden and allowing them to focus on healing.

  • Another colleague lost her pregnancy unexpectedly at 18 weeks (about 4 months). She had to take six weeks off work and was not able to financially plan for this. Your gifts to the Associate Relief Fund assisted her family with their mortgage payment. Having this support helped her, her husband and their three other children stay in their home and recover from the grief of this sudden loss.

Giving to the Associate Relief Fund is a meaningful, tangible way to support our colleagues who experience unexpected hardships, relieving some financial stress and providing a sense of support and stability.

Jessica's story

Jessica Grudzien is an MRI Technologist at Health First’s Gateway Medical Plaza. Just this April, she received a call from her husband who was a self-employed handyman that he had a serious accident using a table saw.

“He was out of work for three months and had no benefits to cover his injury. I got a second job and refinanced our car to help support my family of five – but we still could not cover our mortgage payments,” she said.

“Through the Associate Relief Fund, you helped my family through a scary and financially rocky time. I would tell everyone to donate to it. You never know when it could be you or a friend getting a call that changes your life.”

"Thank you for everything you did for my family."
