Atlanta Congenital Heart Walk

Our daughter Miranda is 10 years old. She is joyful, loving, determined, and full of dreams. She loves dancing, spending time with her friends, and making everyone around her smile. When people meet her, they see a happy and energetic little girl—but behind that beautiful smile is an extraordinary story of courage.

Miranda was born with Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome, including Tricuspid Atresia, a Ventricular Septal Defect, and Transposition of the Great Arteries. Essentially, she was born with only one functioning pumping chamber in her heart.

Before she was six months old, Miranda had already undergone two open-heart surgeries. At five years old, she faced her third: the Fontan procedure. These surgeries did not cure her heart—they created a new path for her circulation and gave her the opportunity to grow, dance, learn, and enjoy her childhood.

Today, Miranda continues to amaze us. She has performed in dance recitals and attended Camp Braveheart, where she was able to spend time with other children who understand what it means to live with congenital heart disease. Every milestone she reaches is something we celebrate with immense gratitude.

But Miranda’s journey is not over. Children living with a Fontan circulation require lifelong specialized care and may face serious health challenges as they grow older. That is why research is so important. Research brings better treatments, safer procedures, longer and healthier lives—and hope that one day children like Miranda may have more than a temporary solution.

We are participating in the Congenital Heart Walk for Miranda, for every child currently fighting, for the families who live with this reality every day, and in memory of the precious children taken far too soon.
