ACLD has come a very long way from its modest beginning in 1957 when a group of families came together to advocate for services for their children with disabilities. All these years later ACLD is still committed to making a difference in the lives of he children and adults we support today.
Our mission is to provide opportunities for children and adults with autism, learning and developmental disabilities to pursue enviable lives, promote their independence and foster supportive relationships within the community.
To carry out our mission, ACLD employs more than 1,300 people and operates 100 different program sites, including community residences and apartment programs across Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Services include early childhood services, day habilitation, residential alternatives, vocational training and job placement, recreation programs, respite, family support services, and occupational, speech and physical therapies.
