Camp Seale Harris has become an annual highlight for Courtney and a critical component to living with Type I Diabetes. Since her diagnosis at age 3, Courtney has managed her illness with great courage, humor, and grace. Each passing year has brought new challenges and new victories for Courtney, who refuses to be defined or limited by her diagnosis. She continues to actively engage and excel in school; spend time with friends (usually making funny videos or dancing around the house); jump into any body of water she can find; sing along to her favorite songs; practicing piano and, travel with family.

Now 12 years old, Courtney is at a stage whereby camps such as this are crucial in further developing her understanding and independence with respect to her Type I Diabetes. We are amazed each year with all she has done at camp, and the positive impact it has on her physical, emotional, and social health. Activities like Camp Seale Harris allow Courtney to spend time with peers who understand, first-hand, the challenges and triumphs of living with this chronic disease. Courtney will continue to learn independence in managing blood sugar and medication, making healthy food choices, and being physically active. Trained, adult volunteer counselors with diabetes are joined by physicians, nurses, diabetes educators, nutritionists, and pharmacists to provide supervision and real-time feedback. Camp also includes fun activities like swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, zip lines, fishing and archery.
