Hello all! As I do every year, I am once again raising money and collecting donations for Camp Seale Harris. I know I have said it before, but Camp Seale Harris is an amazing, one-of-a-kind program for children with diabetes. The experiences, knowledge, and sense of friendship that is bestowed upon a camper at Seale Harris cannot be found anywhere else. For that reason, I once again ask for donations so that any diabetic child or teen who wishes to become a part of this program is able to.

    Many of you already know, but being a person with type one diabetes is extremely difficult. It is impossible to avoid the many adversities that come with being a type one diabetic: expensive supplies, dangerous situations, bouts of the famed ‘diabetes burnout’, and more. However, mine and many other lives are made immensely easier thanks to Camp Seale Harris, because we no longer have to face such hardships alone. The people I have met through Camp Seale Harris will never cease to be there for me when I need them, no matter the circumstance. This network of connections is a blessing that not only consists of lifelong friends, but also a diabetic “safety net” that ensures I will never be left stranded without someone to turn to for help. The importance of having such a safety net is immeasurable, but not everyone is so lucky. It is my goal to raise as much money as possible to send kids to camp who cannot afford it, so that they too can build their own network of friends to support them whenever they are needed.

    As well as acting as an important resource for kids to build relationships with people that can relate to them and always be there for them, Camp Seale Harris is genuinely just a fun time for young people who usually find diabetes as a stress factor in their life. Camp turns type one diabetes around and shows campers what it really is--a manageable disease that has the capability to forge lifelong friendships.
