When I joined the Generations Ahead team in April 2023, I knew I would be supporting young families. What I didn't know was how deeply these teen parents and their children would impact my own life. Every day, I have the incredible honor of walking alongside them, and I am constantly amazed by their dedication, resilience, and love for their families.
As a mom of three with a strong support system, financial stability, and resources, I often think about how different my own parenting journey would have been without those things. I can't imagine navigating parenthood while still trying to finish high school. Watching these young parents persevere despite those challenges has given me an even greater appreciation for their strength and determination.
That's why Generations Ahead means so much to me. We become a village for these young families, providing support, encouragement, and resources so they can succeed and make the best decisions for themselves and their children. It is a privilege to learn from these parents, celebrate their victories, and witness their resilience firsthand.
As back-to-school season approaches, many families are shopping for supplies and preparing for a fresh start. For teen parents, however, this season can feel overwhelming. They are balancing classes, jobs, and caring for their children, all while facing a difficult reality: fewer than 50% of teen parents graduate from high school by age 22. Without a diploma, opportunities become more limited, not just for them, but for their children as well.
That's why I'm raising funds for Generations Ahead. Every dollar helps provide the support these young families need so they can stay focused on their education, build stability, and create brighter futures for more than one generation.
