Bands & Bids Overview
The Bands & Bids fundraising campaign that benefits Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is now twofold: 1) An online auction (open-to-the-public) of music memorabilia...and 2) A live-music event featuring performances by three of Pittsburgh's finest.
THE ONLINE AUCTION: Open to the public for bidding beginning at 8:00 am on Thursday, April 9th and continuing until 10:00 pm on April 16th.
- To review auction items: Simply click on “AUCTION” on the top left of this page
- To be a bidder (event attendees): After purchasing your tickets a bidding profile will be created for you under your email, and you may begin bidding.
- To be a bidder (non-event attendees): select "Get Tickets" then "Just Bidding" and it will walk you through the process of "purchasing" a bidder ticket (this is free of charge). You will be asked for credit card details which will only be charged if you are a winning bidder. After creating this bidder profile you can begin bidding. Note: You will get an automatic receipt after creating this profile, this is not an admission to the event.
- Auction items include, but are not limited to: A “bottle of red” autographed by Billy Joel…an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Rich Engler’s autographed guitar collection…a chance to deejay and dine with Rick Sebak…A Robert Plant signed poster…a limited-edition giclée print of Bob Dylan illustration signed by its Pittsburgh-based artist…framed prints of The Band, Joe Jackson and the Allmans…a pair of tickets to Paul Simon (in Cleveland) and a pair of tickets to Lionel Richie with Earth, Wind & Fire (in Pittsburgh)…and there are more!
THE EVENT: Tickets are available now for this 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm evening at the historic Penn Hebron Garden Club in Penn Hills—on Thursday, April 16th—featuring performances by the Polkamaniacs quintet, the Jig-Offs and Ben Forbeck. Attendees can expect outbreaks of head nodding and toe tapping, and we would advise them NOT to resist any compulsion to dance. There will be complimentary beer via the generosity of Independent Brewing Company and complimentary pizza via the generosity of Black Cat Pizza. Also, bottled water and snacks will be on hand. On-site as well: The aforementioned music-oriented auction items that are online for public bidding from April 9th through April 16th. These auction items will be on display at the event, and bidding can of course be done by attendees as well, right up until 10 pm when the event concludes and the online auction ends.
- Simply click on “BUY TICKETS” on the top left of this page for additional information, and in order to complete your admission donation (or donations, if you are buying as well for a guest or guests). This will secure your admittance(s) to the event.
- AGE: All persons must be 21 years of age or older to attend.
- ACCESSIBILITY: The first floor of the venue has a level entryway that is in the REAR of the building, which IS the official entrance for the facility. Inside, the first floor will be utilized for display of silent auction items and for food and beverage consumption. The facility’s restrooms are on this first floor as well. There is a set of stairs inside the venue connecting the first and second floors. On the second floor, there is a built-in, slightly elevated stage where the musicians will play. There is floorspace that will be left open in front of the stage for closeup viewing and for dancing, with table seating available in the back half of the room.
- PARKING DETAILS: There is a limited number of parking spaces behind the venue (the Penn Hebron Garden Club; 237 Jefferson Road), BUT the venue has an ongoing agreement with the close-by senior center to handle any and all overflow parking. The Penn Hills Senior Center’s address is 147 Jefferson Road, a VERY short drive back down Jefferson Road.

Note that 100% of all revenue from the online public auction of music memorabilia and from the admission donations to the live-music event will do directly to Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Both the auction and the event are in memory of Margot Gloninger Jones (1952-2007).
