My Big Brothers Big Sisters Story

Lyn Praster who was then Director of BBBS of Beaver County hired me on as a part-time case manager in 1987.  I quickly became hooked on the magic in making one-to-one matches between carefully screened Big Brother, Sister, and Couple mentors and school-aged children from one-parent or grandparented homes who were facing so many obstacles like poor neighborhoods blocking their path to a successful adulthood.  My first Bowl for Kids' Sake was 1988 and for 28 years I've participated in Bowl for Kids' Sake either as a staff, a bowler or a donor and usually all three.  When Lyn left the agency in 1991, I was hired on as Director and served in that capacity until my retirement in December 2011.   I've done Bowl for Kids' Sake in snowstorms and I've done them every night of the week for a month.  I have seen firsthand the difference that the support and example of a caring individual can make in a child's life and I know that it works!
