Why I'm Involved? 

This year, I have the privilege to serve as the Director of Campus of Events for Beat Bama Food Drive. The purpose of Beat Bama Food Drive is to work with the Food Bank of East Alabama to promote awareness, raise funds, and collect can donations for the food insecure in the Opelika and Auburn communities. Unfortunately, there are more than 25,000 individuals in Lee County who live with food insecurity. That is more than 21 percent of Lee County residents who are unsure of where their next meal will come from. 

What better way to impact the community and raise money and cans for the community around us than to create a campus-wide friendly competition with the University of Alabama? With the help of students, family, and friends, we were able to raise 245,722 pounds of food last year during our drive, beating Bama by over 95,000 pounds! We are hoping to not only top that number this year, but also to beat the University of Alabama once again. I have been blessed to have grown up knowing that when I got home from school each day there would be dinner on the table. Because I know thats not the case for the 25,000 individuals in the community around me, I want to give back to my community and be a small part of the large impact that I know BBFD will have. I have loved working with this organization and am so passionate about what it stands for. This organization, as well as food insecurity, are very near and dear to my heart, which is why serving with BBFD is such a pleasure for me.
