Nearly eight years ago, I joined Animal Harbor because I wanted to make a difference for homeless animals in our community.

What I didn't realize was how much this work would change me.

Every day brings a new story.

Some are heartbreaking.

Some are joyful.

Some are complicated.

Some are beautifully ordinary.

But every single one matters.

Over the years, I've come to understand that our work is about so much more than finding homes for cats and dogs. It's about building a community where compassion is a choice we make every day. A community where vulnerable animals are given the care, dignity, and second chances they deserve.

The truth is, the need is still great.

There are still frightened animals waiting for someone to notice them.

Still families who need support to keep the pets they love.

Still work to be done to make our community a better place for companion animals.

That's why I stay.

I stay because I believe every animal deserves someone to speak for them.

I stay because I believe love is something we do.

And I stay because every time a frightened animal walks through our doors, I want them to hear the same three words:

"You're safe now."

This year's Beyond the Bone: Love Lives Here campaign is about keeping that promise.
