This October, I’ve signed up to run in the Chicago Marathon and I’m partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Chicago to turn every miserable step into an opportunity to help kids ?

I’ll be honest, I didn’t know a ton about Boys & Girls Club of Chicago when I first started fundraising for them in 2025… but they do some really impressive work!  What really sold me was not only that they genuinely help the kids they provide services for, but they’re agnostic as to who can participate – kids of every background and socioeconomic status are welcome, no questions asked.  In addition to receiving thousands of kids through their door every day involved in after school programs, they also host summer camps – an opportunity for kids in the city to experience life outside of the Chicago confines and for some of them, maybe the only opportunity like that they’ll ever get.  All of these opportunities are created by folks like me and you, giving a little when we’re able to collectively fund the programs. 

Going through the fundraising process has exposed me to quite a few of the Boys & Girls Club metrics and as you can imagine, some of them are pretty shocking.  The one that stands out to me the most is that when they surveyed participants, 68% of the youth they served said they feel the Boys & Girls Club has saved their lives.  That’s not a typo and that’s not in any way trying to drain you of your hard earned money – it’s just a fact that this organization is doing much needed work for youth searching a better present and hoping for a better future.
