Fundraiser for my Jake

Text BIANE 4JAKE to 50155

“Brain Injury can Happen to Anyone, Anywhere, at Any Time.” That is what the individuals, family members and professionals have taught the Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska (BIA-NE).  The need for connections with prevention, education, advocacy and supports is why the Nebraska Legislature, after 10 years of advocating, passed the Brain Injury Trust Fund in May 2020.  Awareness of our population is why I am asking for your donation today.

Your experiences matter for individuals, families, and professionals by increasing understanding through connections and supports, when most needed, whether suffering a stroke, TBI, concussions, infections, now including COVID, and anoxic brain injury, etc.

Before starting with BIA-NE and learning from the people with personal and professional experiences, I didn’t know about the struggles in receiving accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, or the potential for lasting cognitive effects. These connections could have helped me and my son after he suffered a TBI on his 6th birthday. Instead of being considered lazy or difficult, we could have been supportive in his struggles with education and in social situations.

Our goal is to be there for individuals and families when they have similar experiences to what Jake describes in his poem. “To this day moments get foggy, facts mixed up, and always present, a fear of falling, with no one around to find him.”
