Hello friends!
With Bikes Not Bombs approaching our 40th Anniversary (!!) I want to invite you to join me at this years Bike-a-thon and, if you can't join for the ride, helping me reach my fundraising goal!
As many of you know, I was born with severe bilateral clubfoot, had my first surgery at 6 weeks old, and have enough metal in my legs and feet to make me a crows favorite among TSA security. Over the years, bicycles became my source of freedom. Freedom in a physical sense to move and commute and be places with less pain than walking entailed... freedom to get to my unpaid internship in NYC as an undergraduate while saving MTA fare... and freedom to live a car-less life (yay for reduced emissions!).
For many folks across Boston, bicycles represent this same degree of freedom. Mobility and accessibility are themes we take for granted so often. For many of us cycling is a sport and a hobby - and that's great! As we enjoy our hobby, let's also be mindful of what the bicycle represents for Black, brown, and immigrant communities across Boston.
So come on out, join the Board of Directors on this year's ride (choose your distance!) and please consider helping us reach our fundraising goal :)
Happy riding,
Khristopher
