This is the 10th year I’m participating in the annual BikesNotBombs Bike-a-Thon fundraiser. (Though one year I was limited to handing out T-shirts rather than riding due to recovering from surgery.) The ride date has been shifted from September to June 8 this year, so I’m fundraising now rather than in July. (And I’ve also got only about six weeks to train for the 50 miles now.) The BNB multifaceted approach to empowering youths in Boston and Third World villages is more important than ever, now that our government has cut or eliminated funds and programs for vulnerable inner-city and international communities. Learning to repair bicycles, manage a business, teach and lead others, and ultimately owning a bicycle he or she helped to build, benefits those individuals, their families and their peers. Obviously, I am still hooked on BNB‘s very practical mission of utilizing the bicycle as a vehicle for social change. I hope that you will continue supporting my efforts for this worthy cause.
