I am biking to honor my mom, Rose Spielman, who was a huge supporter of Bikes Not Bombs. She passed away in March 2025 from ALS. Biking has always been a huge passion for her - when she was younger, she biked across the entire country, and up until the point where she could not walk unassisted, she was biking 60 miles a week. She loved sharing her passion of biking with other, from teaching my brother and I how to bike to working with Bikes Not Bombs to make the world a better place through bikes :)
Bikes Not Bombs is an incredible organization that works both within the US, with the greater Boston community, and internationally to reduce economic inequality through bikes. In the Boston area, they have a bike shop and community programs that teach bike mechanics, giving youth the opportunity to develop these skills and then get to keep the bike they worked on. Internationally, they distribute bikes to areas experiencing resource insecurity to foster sustainable projects for economic development.
My mom's passion for Bikes Not Bombs was shown in her excitement for their bike-a-thons, as well as collecting hundreds of bikes for the organization through hosting bike drives in our local community. I believe she hosted the largest bike drive they had!
To carry on my mom's legacy, we are forming a team to attend her favorite Bike-A-Thon. I plan to bike the 50 mile route! I appreciate any support you can provide, whether that is donations to Bikes Not Bombs, encouraging words, or even biking with me!
Here's how you can help:
- Donate: Contribute whatever you can. No amount is too small!
- Spread the Word: Share my fundraising page with your friends, family, and social networks. Let’s spread awareness so we can raise more!
Thank you for standing by me in this effort. Your support means the world to me!
