32nd Annual Bikes Not Bombs Bike-A-Thon 2019

Whoever you are you can support an amazing cause by supporting my June 9th 50-mile bike ride for Bikes Not Bombs!

I first road the Bike-a-Thon in 2010. In 2017 I got pregnant and took a break from BAT but I'm back, BABY! Now I'm riding with the Broadway Chain Breakers, the team of my shop Broadway Bicycle in Cambridge lead by my amazing colleague Saskia VannJames.

The reason I rode the Bike-A-Thon for so many years and the reason I'm riding it again is because supporting Bikes Not Bombs in my neighborhood of Jamaica Plain means I believe in youth empowerment, international community empowerment and that the bicycle can be a vehicle of social change. Please check out all the amazing programs that Bikes Not Bombs provides both locally and abroad.

The first year that I rode the Bike-A-Thon was the year I started the team "Team Shark!" which was named after the brand of bicycle my sole teammate rode that year (Land Shark). Last summer we tragically lost that friend. SJ Brooks was important to so many people and so many communities. One of them was Bikes Not Bombs. SJ was my friend, co-worker, board member of Bikes Not Bombs and Team Shark co-founder among many many other things. Although I have retired Team Shark and join the Chain Breakers I ride in their memory and with love and respect for the impact and loss of this cherished friend.
