Hello Friends,  Thanks for checking out my fundraising page.  The Bikes Not Bombs Bike-A-Thon is an excellent event to be involved in, a great day out on wheels, while raising money for a great cause.  You can ride just ten miles, or 30, or 50, or 100.   But even if you can't ride that day, donating to BNB through my fundraising page is a wonderful thing you can do, and here are seven reasons why:

#1.  BNB has hit a rough patch financially and we really need the community to help us pull through it.

#2.  BNB makes the most of every dollar donated.  We are a lean (but not mean) grassroots organization.  We don't have administrative assistants or janitors.  We do our own cleaning chores!

#3.  Your donation will go to help us run our youth programs.  Through our youth programs we teach bike mechanics, bike safety and civic engagement.  We provide apprenticeships and jobs for youth from low-income neighborhoods (especially Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan and Jamaica Plain).

#3.  Your donation will help us to provide better support to our overseas partner organizations in Guatemala, El Salvador, Rwanda, Kenya, and other locations.    These organizations are using the bicycles we ship to them to empower their own communities in different ways.

#4.  Your donation will help us to make our newly integrated space (we just moved our bike shop into our main headquarters) into as excellent a learning space as possible, especially so that youth can participate in all aspects of our retail shop and social enterprise.

#5.  For 35 years now, BNB has stood as a form of resistance and defiant joy, by taking donated bicycles and giving them a second life... in the process helping youth to blossom, gain in confidence, hope and sense of engagement.  

#6.  At a time in US history when our environment and our communities (especially the poor, and of color) are under siege, BNB presents a model of sustainability and justice.
