I am excited to be raising money for Bikes Not Bombs through its Bike-A-Thon. Last year, I had to ride alone through the suburbs and exurbs of Greater Boston, but this year, the ride is more normal, with everyone leaving at the same time from the Stony Brook T station in Boston.
Like last year, I am riding 100 miles, on Sunday, September 12. (Heavy rain means the ride will happen on the 26th, but the prelimiary forecast is for clear skies.)
Bikes Not Bombs is an organization that has managed to think both locally and globally. Some of its programs set up and sustain bicycle infrastructure in countries around the world. And others help kids in Boston learn bike mechanics and bike safety. The bikesnotbombs.org home page explains all the things that the organization does much better than I can.
