Bikes Not Bombs (BNB) use the bicycle as a way to create healthier, more socially just, and economically upward, mobile communities. They have risen to the challenge of empowering underserved youth, women, and people of color, locally and globally, with a way to access affordable, environmentally sustainable transportation, jobs, tangible skills, connection to others, and a safe space to grow, while preventing delinquency and promoting opportunity.
Why help me support Bike Not Bombs?
BNB provides bike education and training programs for youth enrolled in Bike School to learn to ride, repair, and earn a bike. Every year, BNB works with over 300 youth from Boston’s most underserved, underresourced communities, having served more than 4,200 youth to date.
The majority of program participants live and work in the Boston neighborhoods of Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury.
Through youth apprenticeships, BNB hires and trains young adults to serve as peer leaders and community advocates in all programs.
Since 1984, BNB has shipped 78,944 bicycles to our partners in fifteen countries in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean where they are used as capital to establish microenterprises or in local Earn-A-Bike programs.
