Angels Among Us provides financial and emotional support to pediatric cancer families living in or being treated in Nebraska. They serve 120-130 pediatric cancer families each year. Learn more about one of their AAU Warriors below!

Lilia is curious, strong, and resilient!

After experiencing some complex health issues, our youngest daughter of three, Lilia, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in May 2023 at the newly minted age of five years old. It completely changed our family’s lives. She immediately began what became more than two years of treatment and successfully completed that treatment in July 2025. She recently completed one year post treatment and is currently a healthy, growing third grader.

Angels Among Us has SIGNIFICANTLY impacted our family’s journey! Angels Among Us has supported Lilia and our family since the beginning of Lilia’s diagnosis with financial assistance, compassion, kindness and joy. The immediate overnight toiletry bag we received when she was first diagnosed encouraged us with the thoughtfulness shown and the practical support of needing to be in the hospital unexpectedly. The mortgage help was tremendous in easing financial burdens so we could focus more on caring for Lilia and her sisters. The family activities and events, such as the movies at Christmas with the Santa visits, the spa night at the Harper Hope Center, and the overnights at the Lied Lodge in Nebraska City with meals, s’mores, tours and the Tree Adventure have also been such a gift to our family, helping to build happy memories while keeping her safe during treatment. The membership passes that the AAU families can borrow to visit local attractions, such as the Kiewit Luminarium, have also provided joy to our family, allowing us to take some time to get out and do something fun together.
