My Personal Fundraising Page

Let me start this by being real.

2020 is not the year we thought it would be.

So many of us found ourselves out of work (including me) while some of us were putting in extra hours in extremely stressful and uncertain situations (essential workers). We aren’t able to enjoy summer as we are used to and so many things we’ve looked forward to all winter, aren’t happening this year. So yes, 2020 is a tough, challenging, and all around difficult time for all of us.

However, essential services still need to be in operation to help those who are in a situation where they aren’t able to help themselves.

As many of you know, while in between jobs over a year and half ago, I filled in as the case manager at the Beacon of Life for a few months, and in that short time, working with these women had such a positive, life altering impact on my life. When I started at MercyOne I didn't want to stop making an impact at the Beacon of Life so I now serve on the board of directors. In the short time I was at the Beacon of Life, I witnessed women make tremendous strides and positive changes in their lives and become self-sufficient, independent women.

COVID-19 has negatively impacted the women who live and receive care through the Beacon of Life, just as it has negatively impacted so many in our community. Many women saw their hours drastically cut at their jobs, while some lost theirs entirely.

Because of this, the board voted to provide rent relief for all women affected by COVID-19 but this also negatively impacted other services we can offer with a decreased budget.

Last year, at this time, when I started my board appeal for donations to the Beacon of Life, I didn’t feel as awkward as I do right now. As I sit here writing this, I'm asking myself, "How do I send out a general “ask” for donations, when I know so many have lost their jobs or have seen their hours significantly cut?" For those of you living in this reality, I’m sorry and (to keep it real) it sucks – I’ve been there and it’s extremely stressful.

If you are in a position where you have been able to keep your job and would be able to donate to the Beacon of Life; your donation (any amount) would be greatly appreciated.

Funds raised help women in crisis by providing them a safe place to live, life skills programming, access to therapy / drug counseling / mental health providers, etc. By donating, you are directly making a positive impact for the women served by the Beacon of Life; we coudn't do it without your generocity.

Thank you so much!

Best,

Kristin
