Boston Cyclists are headed to Montreal!
Bos/treal (Boss-tree-all) is a weeklong bike tour from Boston to Montreal. The ride is 400 miles over five days, so I’ll be camping out along the way. A group of 50 or so of us are doing this ride together and raising money for the Boston Cyclist Union!
Why Donate?
Donate to Support Safe Streets in Boston and Beyond
Founded in 2010, the BCU is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that advances bike safety, accessibility and equity through organizing, advocacy, education, bike repair, events and more. It’s mission: to transform the streets of greater Boston into equitable, inviting people-centered spaces affording access and connection for every body.
In early 2026, reports emerged that Mayor Michelle Wu had significantly slowed or stalled dozens of long-planned street safety and transit projects intended to protect both pedestrians and cyclists. At least 16 major projects are currently in limbo, including safety overhauls for dangerous corridors like Hyde Park Avenue, where a pedestrian was killed in 2024. Critics argue this "micromanagement" not only risks the loss of an estimated $200 million in state and federal funding but also prioritizes political likeability over immediate safety needs for the city's most vulnerable road users.
Cyclists and pedestrians alike had a hard winter here in Boston. The city chose to prioritize clearing all roadways, often dumping huge piles of snow onto sidewalks, bus stops, and of course, bike lanes. The BCU and other advocacy groups were out there with shovels in some instances, clearing the snow themselves.

I started commuting by bicycle during COVID - it was the fastest way to get to work, and safer than riding the T. I found that I loved riding - I was fortunate to have protected bike lanes on my way to work, and once I was a more comfortable city rider, I started branching out to riding in different parts of the city. When I lived on the South Coast, I kept commuting car-free by taking my bike on the commuter rail.
I currently live in Boston and recently made the big decision to give up my car. This winter, I was glad to not have to worry about South End street parking - and managed to survive a tough winter where the bike lanes were usually full of snow.
I was one of the many people who used bike infrastructure to get into cycling before I was super comfortable. To this day, it keeps me safe on my way to work, the grocery store, doctors' appointments, a friend’s house, or wherever I’m going.
Donate for the Perks
I want to make this fun for everyone so here are some perks that come with different levels of donation:
$ 10 - I’ll add a song of your choice to my riding playlist
$ 20 - I'll write you a bicycle-themed dad joke
$ 30 - I'll mail you a postcard from Montreal
$ 50 - I'll put you on the list to get live updates from me during the ride, including pictures :o
$100 - I'll make you a bicycle craft of your choosing. Here are some ideas that I've done in the past
- Crocheted lil critters that you can attach to your bike handlebars (or just a little crochet critter, to do with as you please. I've been on a bird theme recently)
- Christmas ornaments made out of bike chain
- Cozy embroidery of a bicycle (could be your bicycle?)
Also note that the BCU is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so your donation is tax-deductible! Nice

A pile of BlueBIkes in Cambridge - there is so much demand to ride these to work on weekday mornings that they often end up with "bike attendants" watching over huge piles of them. Then a van comes around and picks up the bikes to redistribute them to nearby stations
