This May, I will be raising money for the Boston Cyclists Union and riding 400 miles from Boston to Montreal.

Boston Cyclists Union is a 501(c)(3) that advocates for better and more equitable bike infrastructure around Boston so that roads are safer for all cyclists and pedestrians. If you’ve ever dreamed of less cars during rush hour, calmer streets to walk on, or more people-centered public spaces, BCU is organizing to make those dreams a reality.

I’m supporting BCU because they are trying to make Boston streets more accommodating for people-powered movement, which benefits everyone. More bikes on the road equals less cars, which means:

• lower air pollution
• faster and more reliable public transit
• safer and healthier neighborhoods for residents of all mobility levels
• reduced climate change impact

This is my first time participating in Bostreal, and I'm so excited for the ride and building community with my fellow cyclists!

A little bit about me and why cycling is such an important part of my life:

I only took the written portion of driver’s ed in high school (because it was a graduation requirement) and never got my driver’s license. This means that cycling, walking, and running are my main modes of transportation year-round. When I first started commuting and recreating by bike, I was very nervous to ride in the street and tried to stick to trails as much as possible. I’ve gotten more confident sharing the road with cars, but the bike infrastructure has also steadily improved in every city I’ve lived in as a result of advocacy by groups like BCU. Bostreal is one of the biggest yearly fundraisers for BCU, and I'm excited to participate and help them meet their goal.
