Welcome back to my annual “Watch John Ask for Money for a Great Cause” page.

Yes… this is year eight. At this point it feels less like a fundraiser and more like a beloved seasonal tradition. Like pumpkin spice. Or the Packers giving us emotional cardio. 

For those who are new here:

Big Brothers Big Sisters Wisconsin Shoreline is a cause that hits close to home. Very close. As in, my home. My wife happens to be the CEO. So yes, you could say I’m deeply invested. You could also say I married into a lifetime fundraising commitment. Both are true.

But here’s the cool part.

What started as Big Brothers Big Sisters in Sheboygan has grown into BBBS Wisconsin Shoreline. That expansion did not happen because of magic. It happened because of people like you. People who believe that one steady, caring adult can change the entire trajectory of a young person’s life.

And it works.

Kids get mentors.

Mentors get purpose.

Communities get stronger.

I get to keep doing this every year because my teammates show up.

Speaking of teammates — every year I rope in friends, coworkers, and fellow do-gooders to join the team. They show up, fundraise, bowl with varying degrees of athletic grace, and support something bigger than all of us. I’m incredibly grateful for that support. Truly.

This is year eight for me, but for some kids, this might be year one of having someone consistently in their corner.

I appreciate all of you. I’m grateful to know you. And I’m thankful we get to do something meaningful together.
