Won't you help me support at-risk kids in our community?
Most of you know that the people and purpose of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Westchester are close to my heart. When a Little Brother or Little Sister is matched with a Big, magic truly happens. Confidence soars, and empowerment follows. Just having a trusted mentor/friend helps at-risk kids steer away from drugs, truancy, and other poor choices.
On Tuesday, June 7th, Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting a bowling party fundraiser to support its Big Futures program. Big Futures college and vocational counseling helps our Littles in high school set and achieve realistic goals for post-secondary education or careers. In addition to ongoing guidance from trained program managers, our Littles meet with returning college students who are alumni of the program and learn from company and community representatives who work with them on topics such as college essay writing to financial planning. It's been extraordinarily successful: In the four years since Big Futures began, all of our program participants have graduated from high school and received scholarships to colleges or vocational programs.
Look, I'm a total klutz but I will be skidding down that shiny alley with every hope that a) you'll help me reach my goal to raise $1000, b) maybe you'll read more about the magic BBBS does and continue to support us? and c) there are no cameras.
