I’m honored to be running the New York City Marathon in support of the Bronx Burners Running Club (BBRC).

I grew up in a small town in Michigan, where sports opened doors that changed the course of my life. Athletics gave me confidence, community, mentorship, and ultimately carried me all the way to volleyball at Yale. Today, as a mother to two young children, I see firsthand how powerful sports and community can be in shaping a child’s confidence, health, and sense of belonging.

My kids are fortunate to have access to teams, activities, and coaches who care deeply about them. Because not every child has those same opportunities, I made myself a promise: for every program I enroll my children in, I sponsor another child’s participation so they can play without barriers. It’s a small act, but it reflects something I believe deeply: access matters. Community matters. The chance to belong matters.

That’s why their mission resonates with me so strongly. BBRC is creating access, mentorship, belonging, and healthier futures for young people through running and community.
