Why we're walking/strolling for the Minnesota NICU/ICC
Our girls were born early, way early, at 23 weeks 5 days due to complications occuring during lasar surgery for TTTS. We lost our sweetheart Emma after 1 day. Our super star Stella spent 113 days in the NICU and overcame multiple hurdles, just like all of the babies who get to go home from the NICU.
We received awesome medical care, of course, but what was unexpected and way appreciated, were the extra programs and services that made an extended stay in the NICU bearable for our family. From the cameras that allowed us to connect with Stella when we had to return to work to the beautiful memorial gifts that the RNs were able to create for us for Emma, to the fun foot and hand prints of our growing babe - each made things feel more normal for us. One of our favorite programs was the Wee Read program. This program brings a new set of books to the baby's hospital room each week. This deffinately got Stella started on the right foot with her love of reading!
By participating in the walk and donating to their cause, we are able to support the continuation and creation of these and similar programs for future families who find themselves needing the services of the NICU and ICC. Please donate if you can. Thank you! The Bensons
