Macie's story

29 years ago this June 8th, I was born 2 months early and had to spend the next 6 weeks in the NICU at Children's Hospital.

Fast Forward to August of 2013 when I was pregnant with our second child, Macie June. She was born a week early while her Daddy was on his way home from deployment in Afghanistan. I had been diagnosed with Group B strep during my pregnancy which is pretty common and is simply treated with antibiotics during delivery. Miss Macie came into the world so quickly that the medication didn't have enough time to work for her and she had to be sent to the NICU for a few days to be sure she didn't develop any complications or infections.

The staff of doctors and nurses were so wonderful! Dealing with a post partum woman whose husband missed the entire pregnancy and birth couldn't have been easy. While we were a pretty easy case for them (I remember thinking about how lucky I was to have such a big baby- and hearing little comments about her size compared to some of the other children there) That was a very stressful time and thank goodness no further complcations developed and we were able to head home after a few days. I think of the other families often and wonder what has transpired in their lives in the almost 3 years since our time there.

Please consider donating all funds raised support the wonderful work of the NICU, the ICC, and SCN at Children's Hospital.
