Community Sailing New Orleans (CSNO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to making sailing and maritime education accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Founded in 2010 and serving the New Orleans community since 2020, CSNO operates from the newly opened Libby & Robert Alexander Community Sailing Center on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain.
As Louisiana’s only community sailing center, CSNO serves youth, adults, veterans, and individuals with disabilities through our unique sailing sailing programs. Our core programs include youth (ages 8-18) initiatives such as Summer Camp, STEM Design+Build+Sail, and the Crew to Captain Maritime Career Development Program; adult programs including Sailing 101, Beyond the Basics, Women in the Wind, and Military Sailing; adaptive sailing programs for individuals with disabilities; school and youth group field trips; corporate team-building, and community sailing experiences.
We have a fleet of more than 35 vessels, including specially designed boats and equipment for those with disabilities or mobility limitations, and serve more than 1,000 participants annually through youth, adult, and adaptive programs.
CNSO is a US Sailing-accredited Community Sailing Center and has earned national recognition for program excellence. Through innovative experiential education and broad community partnerships, the organization continues to create opportunities for young people and adults throughout the Greater New Orleans region to learn, grow, and connect through sailing.
