I adopted my first dog, Autumn, from RAL in 2010. She began my love and dedication to animal rescue. I lost Autumn in January 2025 after a 2 month long battle following a stroke. I am raising funds this year in her memory.
Autumn's Story - The Road to Becoming an Uptown Hound
Like so many, the start of Autumn's story was a sad one. She was found in a dumpster at around 8 weeks old and was missing a toe. Probably an abandoned hunting dog like so many in shelters in and around the state of Virginia. She was scared and alone. I had actually come to RAL to adopt another dog named Peaches, but when I saw Autumn I knew she was the one for me.
Even after being rescued by RAL, her road was rocky. She had a urinary tract infection for 2 months making it very difficult and confusing for her to potty train as a puppy. But she was always the sweetest and most gentle soul no matter what - capturing everyone's hearts with her goofy hound nature. It took her forever to grow into her big hound ears and long legs!
Autumn was a cherished family member and knew love everyday of her life from so many people. If you ever came to our house, she greeted you with a howl and probably wanted to sit with you on her favorite blanket. Before her body became too feeble, she loved to run and be chased (and to chase rabbits in the yard).
Autumn was my best friend friend for 15 years and (along with her sister Claire) was the flower dog at our wedding. She is missed everyday but I know she is chasing rabbits everyday now and is as happy as ever!
RAL's goal (and my goal) is to help every dog and cat to have a second chance at a loving and safe home like Autumn did!
I’m thrilled to be participating in Richmond Animal League's Calendar Contest, a fundraiser where every dollar raised will support pets in need like Autumn!
I’m passionate about this cause and need your help! Every donation—big or small—helps me reach my fundraising goal and directly impacts this important cause.
Additinonally, every dollar = 1 vote for my pet to be featured in RAL's 2026 calendar!
Here's how you can help:
- Donate: Contribute whatever you can. No amount is too small!
- Spread the Word: Share my fundraising page with your friends, family, and social networks. Let’s spread awareness so we can raise more!
